Social Responsibility

Giving back to our community has been one of PNwRC’s guiding principles since its inception. We believe strongly that although the challenges of homelessness, hunger and finding a cure for cancer may seem insurmountable, together we CAN make a difference.  We are proud and honored to support the following charities through various fund raising events throughout the year.

Update: Reflections from 2011 PNWRC Social Responsibility

The American Cancer Society

Spring and Summer Events - Relay for Life

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It
offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight
against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school,
park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track.
Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at  all times during the event.
Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:

  • Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer.
  • The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
  • Remember loved ones lost to the disease

At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing. Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease!!

Union Gospel Mission

  Summer Event – www.ugm.org

The Union Gospel Mission has been serving the hurting and
homeless in our community through emergency and long-term
services for over 77 years. In spring 2009, they opened the doors
of a beautiful new Women and Children’s facility, Hope Place, in the
International District of Seattle.

  • Nearly doubles the number of homeless women and children we can help every day.
  • Provides a safe living place, keeping families together and ending the cycle of homelessness.
  • Located in a residential neighborhood where children can play outside, grow and develop.
  • Increased services, including a Children's Activity Center and Learning Center for women.
  • Easywalking distance to public transportation, parks and schools.

NW Harvest – Fall/Winter Event

    www.northwestharvest.org

The mission of Northwest Harvest is to provide nutritious food to
hungry people statewide in a manner that respects their dignity,
while fighting to eliminate hunger.  Northwest Harvest receives
no city, county, state, or federal funding for operating expenses
and relies solely on contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and
other organizations. Much of their work is made possible by volunteers of all ages, who
give 66,000 hours of their time each year to feed the hungry.
